CULTURAL CLASSROOM AIDE The Cultural Classroom Aide will be responsible for learning the Chitimacha language, assisting the Cultural Instructor in providing group and one-on-one language and cultural instructions, assists in the development of lesson plans, assists Cultural Instructor with curriculum development and scheduling. QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or GED. Relevant teaching, linguistics, cultural/ heritage program development or closely related experience preferred. Upon initial hire, must possess a para-professional certification or obtain within two (2) years from hire date. Must be an enrolled Chitimacha Tribal Member. The Cultural Department has an opening for a Museum Interpreter. This position requires a forty (40) hour work week, working Monday – Friday and possible Saturday hours for tours by appointment. SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Undertakes and performs a variety of duties associated with the operation of and services provided at the Chitimacha Museum. Duties also include research, education and archival activities associated with preserving and promoting the culture and heritage of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana. Monitors exhibit areas and provides guided tours giving information/interpretation of exhibits and related materials, including scheduling large group tours. Assists with developing and updating tribal archives both manually and electronically. Reviews and maintains a variety of files, records, logs, reports, correspondences and other materials. Plans, prepares and gives presentations regarding Chitimacha culture. Oversees the museum gift shop, identifies and orders stock and related items, reviews and updates inventory. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or GED AND two (2) years of experience in public speaking and/or working in the tourism industry. Preference will be given to individuals with clerical experience. Additional Requirements: Must be an enrolled member of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana.
